Most people head to the beach for the weekend. Others prefer to avoid the crowds at the beach and wander to the mts. I headed up to one of my many secret spots, about 5 hours from San Diego. An area overlooked by most but it is beautiful and not very crowded since the millions of people prefer the big parks like Yosemite, Tahoe and so on. In this area you feel like John Wayne might ride outta the woods and people actually like flatbed pickups and stuff. It’s summer you gotta head to the mts at least once, right?

On the way up a country road – cows branded by aliens?

While spots like Yosemite have crowded campsites, we just pulled off the road and had a site to ourselves, next to a stream, meadow and swimming hole no less

Here is the swimming hole which was nice and clear with trout before the dog stirred up the mud on the bottom

The nearby meadow, a 5 minute walk from our site with no people. Actually you could camp right on this meadow if you chose to do so

Aw – flowers for hippies

Bill Clinton spoke in front of this tree in 2000 creating Sequoia National Monument. George Bush Jr. immediately tried to repeal but failed, like George Bush Jr. has failed at pretty much anything in the past 8 years. Sorry about the photo of me but someone had to be in the photos so you can see how big the trees were

These trees are massive and up to 2500 years old, they have to be seen to be believed

Dogs first camping trip with the turned food and water bowl, of course she ate every piece of poop, bone and stick she came across. She did not know what to make of all the animals either

Kern River Valley from Dome Rock with fires in the background

The Needles, Lonnie Kauk would love that stuff. There is a fire lookout tower on top that has been struck by lightning 41 times in the past 20 years

Still some snow at 9115 feet

Looking east towards Olancha Peak, which if you are familiar with the drive to Mammoth, Olancha peak is outside Olancha on the 395, where the Crystal Geyser water company is

Maggie Peak and the Middle Fork of the Tule River and it’s rough terrain

The peaks of way southern Sequoia National Park, or Mineral King

Jordan Peak Fire Lookout. Someone sits in there all day and night and watches for fires. She was nice, let us up and showed us around

Actually, that is Frazier Mt and Mt Pinos way off in the distance

A short hike took us to one of prettiest spots ever, with no people

A very large tree

Another large tree. In like 1992 George Bush Sr. put this area aside from logging – Freeman creek Grove

The sickest picnic/camp spot you could hope to find, surrounded by giant trees

A fire pit in a tree

If you were so inclined the inside of this tree would be a great spot to spend a night and eat mushrooms and get all Hunter S. Thompson/Carlos Castaneda

Small ski area

Hi tech

Two double chairs and a pony tow

The perfect place to shred if don’t have $86 dollars for Mammoth

Yea, yea you can love hip hop and like punk. If you go way back to like 1977, punk and hip hop kind of cam from the same roots - people sick of disco. Anyway who cares I got nothing against hip hop, godd music is good music. The Melvins have a new CD out (Nude with boots) and you should check it. I went to buy it on the release date of July 8th and it was freakin sold out so I ordered one I get to pick it up tomorrow. The Melvins have been playing serious sludge rock and roll for like 25 years, a fucking quarter century. From playing Ozzfest with Tool to playing till dawn in Tacoma for like an audience of 5, they don’t fucking care. These guys are true to their roots. You would think their music would get stagnent with no possibility for change after so many years. I mean Metallica had like 3 good records, then sucked. Well somehow the Melvins stay fresh. Recently they teamed up with Big Business and when they play together it is one of the most powerful shows you will see. Let’s see if I can get this straight. They have two drum set ups. The drummer for the Melvins plays guitar for Big Business and when They switch to the Melvins, the Melvins drummer (Dale Crover) goes back to drums, King Buzzo come on stage and the insanity starts, Two drummers doing the exact sme thing except little subtle differences. Buzzo has a huge stage presence and…just go see the show. This is not any gay shit like the Yea, yea, yeas being played by the Johnny Come Lately’s. The Melvins were in it before you were and they will be in it after you are gone - like Motorhead

This photo of King Buzzo was stolen from Thrashers website and taken by Schmitty. I habeen looking at Thrasher every day lately. Checking the Indy Tours coverage by Rhino and P-Stone. The Melvins played for Jello Biafra’s 50th b-day party in SF
