Archive for the Damn Am 2006 Contest Category

The sixth annual Damn Am Finals day just got done at the Volcom facility. Imagine over 200 of the worlds best am skaters with their family friends and spectators all gathering at one location. It was a splendid affair and I was excited to be able to check it out. If you ever get a chance to see the Damn Am in person, do it. It is kick ass, super fun and you see the up and coming talent. The vibe is friendly but the competition fierce. These guys mostly compete against themselves though and not against each other. There are no real rivalries, only friendships. The crew did a great job putting it on, thanks to endless people for making it happen, read on…

Cody McEntire came out all the way from Texas and this nollie big heel shows why he stomped 2nd place. The top 5 or so guys skated at a full pro level. It was a sick day!

Adam Dyet tried a backside ollie tail kickflip out about 450 times in the best trick comp. He would have made it but it was getting dark. His determination shows why this Damn Am will be his last amateur event

Andrew Pott got a flat tire on the way in to the contest at the Volcom facilities in Costa Mesa, CA and was late as a result but he was not late stomping this big spin

3_andrewpottbigspin.jpg

Anthony Schultz skates all fast and bad ass so he fits right in on Black Label- kickflip board. The event was kick ass with great skating and free food for everyone

4_anthonyschultzkflipboard.jpg

Antoine Asseline with a pop shuv it down the Red Bull 8, or I guess it is a four-flat-four

5_antoineasselinepopshuv.jpg

Axel is a young buck that came all the way from Belgium. Just shows you that kids come not only from all over the US but the world to compete in the Damn Am

6_axellipslide.jpg

Brendon Keaveny hard flips over the hydrant

7_brandonhardflip.jpg

Chris Troy with a sick ass tre flip, almost as sick as all the free product that was given away in the product toss after the event

8_christroytreflip.jpg

Danny Rosario back lips into 8th place, that is 8th place out of 200 skaters so not bad

9_dannyrosariobacklip.jpg

Event winner David Loy. I think it was his HUGE ollie off the tractor trailer back into the course that locked it in for him

10_davidloy.jpg

Derek Simon front flips over the round bar

11_dereksimonfrontkick.jpg

Dustin Figueroa rocks a nose grind and he did not even get in the finals. Pretty much any of the guys in the semi finals could become pro if the eat their Weaties and put in some time

12_dustinfigueroanosegrind.jpg

Jordan Williams won the best trick event, here he is with a smith grind not in the best trick comp but at least you get to see the best trick event winner

13_jordanwilliams.jpg

Josh Madsen with his 5th place best trick; a roll out to fingerflip in. If you saw it in person you would understand how sketchy this was. The best trick event was a 30 minute jam on the wall ride thing

14_joshmadsen.jpg

Max Genin came all the way from France but he got 4th place: that seems worth a trip across the pond. back smith

15_maxbacksmith.jpg

Mike with a sick ass blunt after the 30 minute buzzer in the best trick jam so it did not count. The rail jam was 30 minutes of chaos and sickness kids

16_mikeblunt.jpg

Riley with a blunt slide, yes that Riley…Tony Hawk’s son. Can he skate? Hell yea he can skate, he made the semi finals

17_rileyblunt.jpg

Ryan Decenzo - kickflip board. Doing well in the Damn Am took a combo of consistency and throwing some big tricks here and there

No explanation needed, it is Halloween

19_schaeffer.jpg

Shaun Stulz lips around the difficult c-bar

20_shaunstolz.jpg

Shurikan with an insane nollie flip, no surprise he rocked 3rd place, he was skating at a pro level

21_shurikannollieflip.jpg

Tanner Zalinski – ally oop melon disaster on the big wall
