Whoever would have thought 2003 would be old school. Maybe it is not but a lot of has happened since then. This was Shaun Whites’s first pro skate contest ever. Here he is mid Indy to fakie. Shaun got 4th place

Eric Koston competed. Slam City used to be one of the biggest contests of the year. It ran for over 20 years I think 2003 was the last year. It still runs actually but in Calgary and it is not the same. It was a fun contest and Vancouver is a beautiful city

Hawk did not compete but he must have done a demo, here is a sick ass front blunt on a huge extension

Of course Ryan Sheckler won. It hink that year Ryan won well over 100k in prize money alone. Mind you this was before the Dew Tour and before first place money for the X Games was 50k like it is now

Danny Way, skateboarding legend, mega ramp pioneer and winner of three consecutive X Games gold medals is officially out of this year’s X Games Skateboard Big Air event, as he waits on standby for yet another ACL reconstructive surgery.

The original mega ramp ripper, Danny Way is known throughout the action sports world and beyond as the man who took vertical skateboarding to an unprecedented level, when he conceptualized, designed and rode the first ever mega ramp. Since Danny’s leap into the mega unknown the mega ramp and Big Air competition have become one of the most highly anticipated and watched spectacles at X Games.

Way has won the gold at X Games Big Air once with a broken ankle in 2005, and last year without the benefit of an ACL in his right knee.

Danny is currently expecting a phone call from his doctor, any day, regarding a ligament from a cadaver. As soon as he has the confirmation, Way will once again go under the knife.

While Danny supposes that he could once again compete with no ACL, he is well aware that doing so may result in long-term damage, closing the door on competitive skateboarding forever. Also is the fact that Danny has been out of practice on the mega ramp for a few months, and any skate session culminates in serious icing and rest.

Way, 33, has undergone three ACL reconstructive surgeries in the past.
