Northern San Diego County has a low selection cultural choices. Pretty much every snowboarder in the world moves here but it is not for culture it is for the cushy sun filled lifestyle; surfing, skateboarding, drinking at the Saloon, cofee at the Pannikan or Hill Street Coffee house and so on. The only real drawback is that there are few museums, few places to see shows and that’s cool would you rather live in the sun and have no culture or live in a shit hole town and go to the rad museum every day? Whatevs, LA is 1.5 hours away and San Diego is thirty minutes so who cares if you can not get Ethiopian food at 1 am, not me, Albertos is all the culture I need. Things are improving though.

A new art gallery called Swiv Tackle Circus opened in Oceanside in March of this year. Recently was the closing of a show featuring Kris Markovich. Kris actually painted an installation while the attendees drank free beer, tea and listened to cool tunes. It was right out of a beatnick movie or something and it was cool to see in Oceanside. The gallery is located on South Hill Street, near Hill Street Coffe House and some tatoo shops so that is making that part of town kind of art central. So, in addition to Encinitas (the Saloon) and Cardiff (the Office) and Hensleys in Carlsbad, maybe some night head to Oceanside and get cultured. The place is open 11-6 but later for shows.

The sign marks the spot, unfprtunately I will never rember the name but the place is sick, check it out

The reason people don’t look at art as much in San Diego as much as they do in say…New York?
